THE MORNING REGIMEN - IMPROVING CONCENTRATION AND FOCUS - MIND MASTERY
EXPERIMENT: Get your ass out of bed a bit early and reap the rewards. There are no shortcuts to accessing our super-human gifts.
Focus: Mind Mastery
Time: 10 Minutes
Before we delve into various modalities for finding your life purpose, let’s kick the day of right -- each and every day.
This document will be a work in progress and will evolve as the regimen does. Key to the ‘morning regimen’ is dedication to setting the day up for success; it takes discipline to get out of bed at least 30 minutes early and make a commitment to your personal evolution. But the rewards are innumerable. “Early to bed, early to rise makes a man...” Yup, some health, wealthy and wise dude came up with that one.
Without a base level of discipline, progress will be weak at best. A daily regimen (and it can be short and sweet) that is focused and committed will be met with improved focus and clarity, enhanced personal power, stronger alignment with our life purpose and a general sense of well being. (I have personally failed at maintaining such a routine time and time again -- but without a basic commitment, this is all a lost cause). So suck it up and feel the juice.
MIND MASTERY EXERCISE:
So the mind can be a wild place if left unchecked. This garden will grow an obscene amount of weeds if not maintained. Usually negative, fear-based weeds that recur again and again. Pull out the weed wacker on a regular basis. It’s the only way that I have found.
This is step #1 and most people never even try to get passed it.
To start things off, we’ll keep it simple:
10 Minutes:
Sit in a chair, floor or the edge of your bed. If you have trouble staying awake, then better to do your physical exercises first and then move to this mind mastery exercise. Close your eyes and feel the weight of your body on the chair. Focus only on this. As other, random (and weed-like) thoughts arise, just observe them and let them go. Be the observer without being unconsciously drawn in to them. Then return to your focus. The purpose of this exercise is to become aware of, and subsequently reduce the number of these aberrant thoughts that float into our heads without our conscious permission. Next feel the weight of your clothes on your body. Then feel the breeze on your face (again, focusing only on this); then feel your breath going in and out; and finally just focus on your hearing until you can extend it out farther and farther. Don’t judge or analyze anything. Simply feel and hear. This exercise works because our five senses exist only in the present moment. So we leverage them to keep our minds present for this daily training exercise. Do this exercise once at work and also before bed. Before long you’ll no longer be enslaved to an out-of-control mind. You’ll become the captain of your mind-ship. The ultimate weed wacker.
Then we can move on to step 2: Programming the mind to align with the heart. Giddie up.
Remember, our minds are receptors for energy everywhere and we must fine-tune them lest they pick up endless static, preventing us from pursuing our life purpose in a focused and productive capacity.
I'll be the first to admit that I have screwed up royally on this regimen and been guilty of a busy mind MANY, MANY times -- but I have also implemented this with tremendous success when I was committed to the process.
So what do you say? Let's do this.
In our next discussion we will talk about some simple physical exercises and nutritional regimens for restoring and rejuvenating our precious body vehicles. We’ll also be delving into ways to identify your life purpose. Fun stuff.
Hasta luego.
